“Let us go to the sanctuary of the Lord; let us worship at the footstool of his throne” – Psalm 132:7
Today is Sunday, a perfect day of the week to talk about worship, because, although worship should be a daily lifestyle, most people think of worship on Sundays only, if even that much.
In John’s Revelation, chapter 4, John is taken up to heaven and shown the throne of God. This throne was surrounded by twenty-four more thrones, which seated twenty-four elders. Directly around the throne were four living beings (Revelation 4:6-8) of unworldly design. It is said in verse 8 that they kept on saying, day after day and night after night, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” They did not stop praising him after a couple hours in the presence of God. They went day after day, night after night, remaining in God’s presence and praising Him. I’ll venture a guess that, like me, many Christians have a hard time with making worship a constant lifestyle, especially if music is all we consider worship to be. My challenge for us today is to look at ways to make our lifestyles into constant worship. This is way too big of a challenge to complete in one day, so, over the next few weeks, take time every now and then to look at what’s distracting you from adoring, praising, and thanking God constantly.
Back to the Revelation. Revelation 4:9-11 picks up the story where it never left off, and it says that when the living beings give praise (which is, remember, day after day and night after night), the elders get off of their thrones, fall down, and worship God on his throne, and lay their crowns before him, saying “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” Even the elders at the throne fall down before the presence of God, and they lay their crowns before Him, day after day and night after night. How much more should we be falling down before the presence of God and offering up the crowns he has given us, our possessions and talents, in worship, day after day and night after night?
Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety, (Proverbs 29:25)
