Resources
I’d like to share with you my resources both for digging into the Bible and for blogging, so you too can experience the Bible in a deeper way and share some insights if you have any. Blogging is easy, and reading the Bible is even easier, but knowing what’s available to you might be handy.
Disclaimer: I don’t necessarily endorse, approve, or believe in all of the content on the external sites linked to here. I put the links to specific pages for specific reasons, with the hope that the content will not distract from your purposes of pursuing God. I do try my best to ensure that links are not to places that are outright stumbling blocks to faith.
Bible
- The One Year® Bible, Tyndale House Publishers
- The One Year® Bible is arranged so that each day of the year has a passage from the Old Testament, a passage from the New Testament, a passage from the Psalms, and a couple verses from proverbs. Although it is a New Living Translation bible (not my favorite translation), it is well footnoted and the arrangement of the verses into days encourages daily reading. Available at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble for around $15. ISBN 1-4143-0982-1
- The One Year® Bible Online
- Just when I thought this One Year Bible deal couldn’t get any better, I found out at the end of 2009 that there’s also a website. Here, you can download a chart listing all the daily readings of the One Year Bible, get links to the daily readings on biblegateway.com in the translation of your choice, have those links sent to your email, and so much more! http://www.oneyearbibleonline.com
- Xiphos
- Out of all the software on my computer, one of my favorite programs is Xiphos. It is a free (totally, completely free) program that lets you download many translations of the bible (I have downloaded 77 at the time of writing this, in 9 languages) and not just read through them, but search through them for keywords, check how translation line up to each other, read commentary, consult bible dictionaries, look at maps, and even write down thoughts and prayers, all without ever leaving the program. I use this a lot to check out a passage of scripture in the English Standard Version and the King James Version, to see if I understand those better. http://www.xiphos.org
Blog
- Logos Reftagger
- This handy dandy tool turns text verses on your site into links with a pop-up box containing the text of the verse, in your choice of 14 different English translations. It is known to work well with a variety of sites, including many blogs, forums, content management systems, and even wikis.
Keep watching for more resources as I post them. I hope these will help you as you strive to follow after Jesus and let him shine through you to the world around you.
